I made the project “Light” because I wanted to show something most of us take for granted, light, whether that is natural light or light through electricity. But the main reason behind this project was how people are also treated the same way, people who “light up a room” so often that it’s expected of them, to the point that not everyone recognized how much they help the ones around them.
Jimmy 2023 Marker 12” x 9”
Jimmy was originally created in my junior year art class on the whiteboard, I drew him next to an egg without realizing it. Eventually, kids from other classes and grades helped me expand him for a while over a week and I got attached to him. After he was erased I decided to use him in one of my art pieces while deciding to put him in a funny situation so that even if someone didn’t originally see him on the board they would still think it was a bit funny.
Blackberries 2023 Colored pencil 9” x 6”
When I was younger my great-grandma would grow blackberries in her yard. With these berries, she would make jam and we would have some of it on bread at dinner when we ate at her house. But she would also have us help pick the berries and run them inside, which was a core memory left for me because I remember feeling like I was actually able to do something without messing it up.
